The course aims to provide the methodological knowledge and practical skills necessary to become independent in the design, execution, analysis, and interpretation of systematic reviews, enabling students to handle every part of the systematic review process. Specifically, the following topics will be covered: the stages of a systematic review, the essential methodological aspects of a systematic review, the assessment of the risk of bias, the combination of binary outcome results from randomized controlled trials, the combination of relative risks and odds ratios, the fixed-effects and random-effects models, the combination of continuous outcome results from randomized trials, the combination of survival outcome results from randomized controlled trials, how to combine the results of cluster and cross-over randomized controlled trials, and the publication bias.
